| Process Vessel Control |
| The manufacturing facility of the Boots Company P.L.C. in Nottingham has many large process and holding vessels with associated control valves and pipework. Quite often the contents of one tank can feed numerous packing lines. Both the operation of the manufacturing tank (temperature, contents, stirring and/or homogenizing times etc.) and the production line batching routes and quantities have to be controlled and monitored. Here at B.J. Control Panels Limited are very experienced in this type of application producing many such systems for a variety of processes. All of the systems incorporate Mitsubishi PLC’s and H.M.I. operator interfaces. This approach gives the operator a clear view of each process tank operation, feeding route, c...More |

| Intrinsically Safe (I.S.) Instrument Control Panels |
| B. J. Control Panels Limited has extensive knowledge of intrinsic safety using both zener barriers and galvanic isolation. The overall concept of intrinsic safety (as opposed to flameproof, explosion proof, purged etc.) is that the amount of electrical energy (measured in Joules) allowed to enter a hazardous area is limited - so that if a fault does occur in the system, there is not enough energy in the resultant “spark” to ignite the explosive atmosphere.
We have designed and manufactured many such I.S. control panels and systems which utilize zener and galvanic isolators and instruments from world leading manufacturers such as MTL, Trolex, Beka Instruments, Bartec and Pepperl & Fuchs etc. Due to the nature of such process...More |

| Glaze Weighing System |
| Denby pottery had an old method of weighing out the individual pottery glaze mixes which relied wholly on an operator pressing a button and releasing it when the desired weigh was reached. This approach to one of the most important processes in the pottery led to inconsistent glaze batches and almost no traceability. The engineering stay at Denby decided that a new “all singing – all dancing” automatic system be developed using the latest state of the art technology. B.J. Control Panels Limited was approached to develop such a system. After detailed consultation with Denby pottery, a system specification was produced which detailed the customers exact requirements. Work then began on the systems electrical schematic and ge...More |

| Autoclave SCADA System |
| Rolls Royce marine in Derby had three large autoclaves which were at least 50 years old. The control system for them had been updated over the years to add temperature controllers and chart recorders, but the overall system was poor by today’s standards. The engineers at Rolls Royce decided that a new control system was needed for the autoclaves as this was a very important part of the activities undertaken by the marine division. B.J. Control Panels were approached by Rolls Royce and devised a control solution based on the Allan Bradley RS View SCADA package. The whole system utilized several control panels (housing heater thyristor controls etc.) and a main PLC enclosure. The whole process was controlled and monitored by an operator...More |

| Various Heater Control Panels |
| Industrial heaters are produced by B.J. Control Panels Limited to cover a vast spectrum of applications and for a wide variety of customers including:
Eurotherm Limited
Heatex Limited
Heatrae Industrial Limited
Watlow Limited
They range in size from a few watts of power (at very low voltage) to several hundred kilowatts. The method of control of the heater is as varied as the heaters power rating. Approved methods of industrial heater control include:
On/Off Control
Burst Fire On/Off Control (Solid State Contactor)
Phase Angle Control
Burst Fire Control(Variable Time Base)
The simplest for of heater control is on/off. This simply applies power to a heater via a signal from a thermost...More |
